Gas Certificate of Compliance

A gas Certificate of Compliance costs R950 for the first appliance and R150 for each additional appliance. It is issued under SANS 10087 by a practitioner registered with SAQCC Gas, and it is the document showing your installation was built and tested to the standard.

When you need a gas certificate of compliance

• A new gas installation has just been completed.
• An existing installation has been altered, extended or moved.
• A property with a fixed gas installation is being sold or transferred.
• An insurer or a body corporate asks to see one.
• You let the property and must show the installation is compliant.

Who may issue one

Only a practitioner registered with SAQCC Gas. A plumber or an electrician cannot issue a gas COC, however good they are at the physical work, and a certificate signed by someone who is not registered does not do the job it exists to do. What the inspection covers

The appliance and its connection, the pipe run with its material and sizing, cylinder siting and restraint, ventilation and combustion air, shut-off valves, and a pressure test for leaks. What is being checked against is set out in gas pipework regulations.

If the installation does not pass

We tell you what has to change and quote it. We do not issue a certificate for an installation that is not compliant. Remedial work is priced from the same table as new work — see gas installation costs.
