Gas Stove Installation Requirements

A gas stove installation has to satisfy SANS 10087-1: a registered installer, correct positioning and clearances, cylinders sited outside, pipe sized for the burner load, adequate ventilation, and a Certificate of Compliance at the end.

The gas stove installation requirements in order

1. A registered installer

The work and the certificate must come from a SAQCC Gas-registered practitioner — see SAQCC Gas and your COC.

2. Positioning and clearances

Clearance to combustible surfaces above and beside the appliance, and a stable, level base for a freestanding stove.

3. Cylinder placement

Cylinders are sited outside, upright, restrained and ventilated, clear of drains, windows and ignition sources.

4. Piping and connection

Approved pipe sized for the burner load, with the correct fitting and hose at the appliance — see gas pipework regulations.

5. Ventilation

Combustion air to the room, sized to the appliance.

6. Testing and certification

A pressure test, then a gas certificate of compliance.
