Gas Geyser and Water Heater Installation
Gas geyser installation runs R3,000 to R9,900 installed, with a Certificate of Compliance at R950 for the first appliance. A gas geyser heats water on demand, so it keeps working when the power does not.
Sizing a gas geyser
Capacity is quoted in litres per minute, not litres stored. One bathroom is usually served by a smaller unit; a household running a shower and a kitchen tap together needs more. We size it against the outlets that will realistically run at once, because an undersized unit is the most common complaint we are called out to fix.

Flued and flueless
Where the unit is mounted decides which type is legal. A flueless heater cannot go in a bathroom or a bedroom; a flued unit vents outside and carries its own clearances. Those come from SANS 10087-1 — see gas regulations in South Africa.
Running it off an existing cylinder
A geyser draws considerably more gas than a hob. Adding one to an existing installation means the line and the cylinder bank both need checking for the new load rather than simply teeing in — sizing rules are in gas pipework regulations.
The certificate
The installation is pressure-tested and issued with a gas certificate of compliance.
