SAQCC Gas Registration and the Gas Certificate of Compliance

SAQCC Gas is the South African Qualification and Certification Committee for Gas, the body that registers gas practitioners here. Only a registered practitioner may issue a gas Certificate of Compliance, and that certificate is what shows an installation was built to SANS 10087. Our COC is R950 for the first appliance and R150 for each additional appliance.

What SAQCC Gas is

SAQCC Gas maintains the register of qualified gas practitioners in South Africa. Registration is what allows a person to work on a gas installation and to issue the gas certificate of compliance for it. The register exists so a homeowner, a landlord or a conveyancer can check that whoever signed a certificate was entitled to sign it.

How to check a gas practitioner before you hire one

Ask for the SAQCC Gas registration number and check it on the SAQCC Gas register before the work starts. Ask to see the registration card too: the number, the card and the name on your quote and your certificate should all match. A registered practitioner will not mind being asked.

What SANS 10087 covers

SANS 10087 is the national standard for the handling, storage and distribution of liquefied petroleum gas, and it is what an installation is measured against. Most domestic work touches SANS 10087-1, with SANS 1539 and SANS 329 covering pipe and fittings. When you need a gas COC

• A new installation is completed, or an existing one altered.
• A property with a fixed gas installation is sold or transferred.
• An insurer, a landlord or a body corporate asks for one.

What a gas COC costs
